On behalf of school board members and the WASB, I congratulate Dr. Tony Evers on his election as Wisconsin’s governor. We look forward to working with Dr. Evers to advance the cause of public education in our state, reform school funding, and improve student achievement and equity. I know we are both committed to ensuring that Wisconsin students graduate high school prepared to succeed.

I also thank Governor Scott Walker for his many years of public service to our state. I commend his efforts to link students to careers as well as his recent support of increased funding for all schools, including small rural schools, and for school safety initiatives. On behalf of my members, I wish Gov. Walker well in future endeavors.

Additionally, I want to thank both Gov. Walker and Dr. Evers for making K-12 education a high-profile issue in their campaigns. It is rare to see both major candidates battle over who will best serve education and be best for children. In the long run, education in our state will be better for the emphasis and attention each of them gave it.
