Today, the Department of Health Services (DHS) submitted a complete application to the federal Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) requesting disaster FoodShare benefits for residents affected by the widespread flooding and extreme storms that impacted much of the state in late-August and early-September. Following the statewide State of Emergency declared by Governor Scott Walker, DHS requested approval from FNS to provide additional assistance to people in counties most impacted by severe weather.

Disaster Foodshare benefits would be available for those in the counties most impacted by severe weather or flood who incurred losses such as:

  • Home, belongings or place of employment damaged or destroyed
  • Lost income, food or money
  • Other disaster-related expenses

Counties included in the waiver request are:

  • Crawford
  • Dane
  • Juneau
  • La Crosse
  • Monroe
  • Richland
  • Sauk
  • Vernon

DHS will announce the approved impacted counties and instructions for applying for disaster FoodShare benefits once FNS approves the application.
