“Wisconsin’s top law enforcer can’t even follow the law himself”
MADISON — The latest round of campaign finance reporting has found Brad Schimel exceeding legal contribution amounts from the special-interest bankrolled Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA). The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has filed an official complaint with the Wisconsin Election Commission for Schimel’s blatant violation of campaign finance law.
“Wisconsin’s top law enforcer can’t even follow the law himself,” said Martha Laning, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Brad Schimel cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of keeping Wisconsinites safe when he behaves like he’s above the law.”
RAGA’s top funders include opioid manufacturers and the NRA, who was their second highest donor in 2017. Brad Schimel has been criticized for his tone-deaf response to school shootings, suggesting arming Wisconsin teachers. And despite the fact that 71 of 72 Wisconsin counties and 18 Republican attorneys general have joined in lawsuits to hold opioid manufacturers responsible for the crisis they helped create, Brad Schimel has refused to do so.
“Wisconsinites want an attorney general who takes the law seriously,” added Laning. “In November, Wisconsin voters will remember that Brad Schimel used his office not to make Wisconsin safer or more just, but to push a partisan special-interest agenda. And they will hold him accountable.”
