RAGA dumps $2.5 million into race for floundering Schimel
MADISON — Special-interest bankrolled Republican Attorneys General Association (RAGA) has decided to throw a whopping $2.5 million at their floundering candidate Brad Schimel after weeks of bad press and reports that his opponent Josh Kaul raised more than double what Schimel did in the last reporting period.
“Brad Schimel and his special interest backers are terrified, and for good reason,” said Courtney Beyer, DPW spokesperson. “Schimel abandoned his responsibilities, refused to stand up for our best interests, and failed to keep Wisconsinites safe as attorney general, and Wisconsinites want a change in leadership.”
RAGA’s top funders include opioid manufacturers and the NRA, who was their second highest donor in 2017. Brad Schimel has been criticized for his tone-deaf response to school shootings, suggesting arming Wisconsin teachers. And despite the fact that 71 of 72 Wisconsin counties and 18 Republican attorneys general have joined in lawsuits to hold opioid manufacturers responsible for the crisis they helped create, Brad Schimel has refused to do so.
Meanwhile, a group of 45 former assistant attorneys general have endorsed Josh Kaul for attorney general after writing a letter in vehement opposition to Brad Schimel, saying Schimel “has blatantly politicized the office, dropped the ball on his role as the lead crime fighter in Wisconsin, and abdicated the AG’s traditional role as ‘the people’s lawyer.’”
“The momentum to replace Brad Schimel is staggering, and it’s only going to continue to build,” added Beyer. “In November, voters will reject Schimel’s political games and choose an attorney general who can be counted on to put their needs first.”
