An overturning of Roe v. Wade would have severe consequences in Wisconsin

MADISON — Vice President Mike Pence, who recently came to Wisconsin to fundraise for Scott Walker, doubled down yesterday on his extreme view that Roe v. Wade should be overturned, a move that would immediately criminalize abortion in Wisconsin where a pre-Roe abortion ban is still on the books.

Scott Walker himself has signed into law several pieces of legislation that severely limit a woman’s right to obtain an abortion in Wisconsin, including a 20-week ban with no exceptions for rape or incest. He’s even made promises to pursue a “complete abortion ban” in Wisconsin even in cases where the mother’s life is at risk.

“Women in Wisconsin deserve to know: does Scott Walker support the overturning of Roe v. Wade?” asked Courtney Beyer, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson. “If extremists like Mike Pence and Scott Walker have their way, decades of progress for women’s equality will be turned back and thousands of lives put at risk.

“The consequences of a Roe repeal would be catastrophic for many. That’s why it’s more important than ever that Wisconsin elects a governor who will defend the right of Wisconsin women to make their own healthcare decisions.
