Vukmir wants to eliminate the federal Dept. of Education (along with the Environmental Protection Agency), but that didn’t stop the DeVos family from donating to her campaign

MADISON — Republican U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir’s July 15 Quarterly FEC filing reveals that four members of U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’ family donated a combined $10,800 to Vukmir over the past three months. Previously in 2010, Vukmir also received an additional $2,000 from Secretary DeVos and her husband, during her state Senate campaign.

The DeVos family’s support for Vukmir is no surprise. Betsy DeVos and her family have a long history of donating to ultra-conservative causes and candidates advance their corporate special interest agenda, which includes funneling tax dollars away from educating kids in the public education system. And the DeVos family also has a history of donating to anti-union causes, so it’s no wonder that they’re enthusiastic supporters of Vukmir, who has made a career of tearing down Wisconsin working families.

Vukmir also agrees with Secretary DeVos on arming teachers in classrooms and even abolishing the Department of Education, entirely. In May, Vukmir said she “fantasize[s]” about eliminating the U.S. Department of Education, outright:
“[I]t’s going to be very hard, you remember Ronald Reagan tried to completely abolish the Department of Education, and while you and I can fantasize and want to do that with all of these agencies, if we can start taking this approach where we’re peeling it back to this extent, who knows? That could be the next step that we could do, as well.”
Leah Vukmir stands with Secretary Betsy DeVos’ reckless, anti-public school agenda across the board. It’s no wonder the DeVos family is backing her candidacy.
