MADISON — Wall Street hedge fund manager and failed 2012 candidate Eric Hovde has endorsed state Sen. Leah Vukmir’s campaign to help corrupt corporate special interests and her billionaire megadonors get even richer while selling out Wisconsin.
“Leah Vukmir has spent her past 15 years in Madison working to reward corporate special interests and the ultra-wealthy, at the expense of hardworking Wisconsinites, so it’s no surprise that hedge fund manager and self-described ‘special interest’ Eric Hovde is excited about her campaign,” said Brad Bainum, Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson for the 2018 Senate race. “Hovde is the personification of the corporate special interests that will profit off Vukmir’s policy agenda while it inflicts real pain on our state’s working families.”
Vukmir’s policy priorities line up with Hovde’s corporate special interest agenda:

Stripping away millions of Americans’ health care. Like Vukmir, Hovde supports Trumpcare legislation that would gut protections for Wisconsinites with pre-existing conditions, spike consumer costs, and take health care away from tens of millions of Americans.

Hiking taxes on middle-class families to gift massive tax cuts to corporations like Exxon and the wealthy few. And just like Vukmir, Hovde urged Congress to pass the GOP tax law that gives a trillion dollars to corporations and the wealthiest one percent. The law sends more than 80 percent of benefits to the richest one percent and big corporations like Exxon, Wells Fargo, and drug companies like Pfizer, while hiking taxes on hard-working, middle-class Americans. And the tax law is paired with a Republican federal budget plan that calls for deep cuts to Social Security and Medicare, and would put nursing home care coverage at risk.

Exploding the deficit and gutting Wisconsinites’ Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Hovde is right with Vukmir’s plans to go after Wisconsinites’ Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. In 2012, Hovde ran on the Paul Ryan Budget and even said its cuts didn’t go far enough.

Taking away Wisconsin women’s health care options. Hovde ran on taking away Wisconsin women’s right to choose in 2012, endorsing an anti-choice abortion ban that would only have allowed exceptions for rape or incest. Vukmir is even more extreme; she supports a zero-exception abortion ban and just helped champion a new law to restrict Wisconsin public employees’ access to abortion.
