If Kevin Nicholson’s Illinois megadonor really wants intraparty unity, then why is he attacking Leah Vukmir?
MADISON — Two of the Wisconsin Senate race’s top Republican megadonors on opposite side of the GOP primary claim that they want party “unity” once the primary is over.
In addition to serving as Leah Vukmir‘s campaign finance co-chair, Wisconsin billionaire Diane Hendricks has donated at least $500,000 to a super PAC supporting Vukmir. And Illinois billionaire Dick Uihlein has to-date spent more than $7.5 million on TV and radio ads supporting Kevin Nicholson or attacking either Baldwin or Vukmir.
Uihlein’s most recent spending in the Wisconsin Senate race comes from Club for Growth Action Wisconsin — a group solely funded by $2.5 million from Uihlein — which just announced a $2 million barrage of negative anti-Vukmir attack ads.
And that uncomfortable, $2,000,000 expenditure brings up a pressing question: If Kevin Nicholson’s out-of-state megadonor Dick Uihlein really, truly wants Wisconsin GOP unity, then why is he instigating Wisconsin’s “GOP Civil War” and spending millions tearing down the Republican Party of Wisconsin’s candidate of choice?
