MADISON — Recent polling from Morning Consult suggests that Gov. Scott Walker’s reelection bid may be on even shakier ground than he thought: Walker’s disapproval rating has mounted to 50%, placing him as the 8th most unpopular governor in the nation.

“It is not surprising at all that Scott Walker is one of the least popular governors in the country given the harm he’s caused for our communities and our neighbors,” said Martha Laning, chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. “Instead of Gov. Walker working to be sure Wisconsinites have the most affordable and accessible healthcare in the nation, the Governor proposes legislation to rip healthcare away from 80,000 Wisconsinites, thereby increasing the cost of healthcare for all of us.

“Instead of investing in our schools, tech colleges and universities, which are our economic engines as well as an on-ramp to the middle class, the Governor cuts education funding, leaving our youth at a disadvantage and our businesses without the workforce they need. Instead of properly funding our roads which have declined to be the second worst in the nation, he lavishes tax breaks on his donors. Scott Walker is not standing up for us or our state.

“In contrast, Democrats would fully fund education and reduce student debt. We would work with local businesses to grow jobs and entrepreneurship. We would work to ensure all Wisconsinites have access to affordable healthcare, thereby ensuring that a devastating health diagnosis doesn’t also come with a bankruptcy notice. We know the role of our elected leaders is to grow opportunity for every Wisconsin resident. In November, Wisconsinites will elect a governor who is in touch with their needs.”
