WisGOP: Everything is ‘on the table’: Evers campaigns with high-tax Governor Inslee of Washington
[Madison, WI] — When it comes to tax increases, Tony Evers has told voters “everything is on the table,” but refuses to say exactly what that means for taxpayers. Today Evers is welcoming Washington Governor Jay Inslee to Wisconsin to campaign on his behalf. Inslee’s tax-and-spend record is a preview of what’s to come for Wisconsin families. In fact, Inslee himself once told voters that tax hikes were “on the table.” For Inslee, that meant increases in the gas tax and $5.5 billion in new taxes on the State of Washington. Is that what on-the-table tax hikes look like for Tony Evers?
“Tony Evers keeps telling Wisconsin families that everything is ‘on the table’ but won’t say how much he plans to hike their taxes. We’ll take Tony Evers at his word and assume that his ‘on-the-table’ tax hikes would be as damaging as Inslee’s,” said Alec Zimmerman, spokesman for the Republican Party of Wisconsin. “Wisconsin’s economy is strong, and we can’t afford to go backward with liberal tax-hiking policies like those championed by Evers and Inslee. Tony Evers’ taxes will cost us jobs.”
What “On the Table” Tax Hikes Look Like:
- When it came to tax hikes, Inslee once told voters that “a lot of these things were still on the table,” similar to a sentiment that Evers has expressed to Wisconsin.
- Washington already has the second-highest gas tax in the country, but Inslee wants to increase it by 20 cents per gallon, and immediately allow for automatic increases in subsequent years.
- Just five weeks after winning re-election in 2016, Inslee proposed $5.5 billion in tax hikes.
Why should we think Tony Evers would be any different?
