New program aims to help destroy unused drugs
[Madison, WI] — Attorney General Brad Schimel is fighting to keep opioids off our streets. On Monday, Schimel rolled out a new program that will help communities destroy unused drugs. Schimel continues to fight against the opioid abuse epidemic, leading Wisconsin’s drug take back day that collected 60,000 pounds of prescription drugs, and most recently joining the nation’s Attorneys General in sending a letter to Congress urging action on legislation to crack down on fentanyl.

Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel announced he’s rolling out a new program to destroy highly-addictive medications.
“Normally we don’t recommend throwing unused medications in the garbage or flush them down the toilet because those can end up in our water system supply,” said Schimel. “By using this deactivation system you can safely throw them away because the powder makes them useless.”
