The “WisPoliticos” of 2017 have been selected.
Voters in the annual contest selected House Speaker Paul Ryan as the GOP “WisPolitico” of the year and Assembly Minority Leader Gordon Hintz as the Dem “WisPolitico” of 2017.
Ryan, R-Janesville, helped shepherd through the biggest tax overhaul in decades, while Hintz replaced Peter Barca of Kenosha in the middle of the legislative session.
They also picked Dem House candidate Randy Bryce’s rollout video as the Dem ad of the year. Bryce is running in Democratic primary in the 1st Congressional District, now held by Ryan.
And GOP U.S. Senate candidate Leah Vukmir’s campaign announcement won the award for the top GOP ad of 2017. Vukmir, a state senator from Brookfield, is running in a Republican primary for the right to go up against U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison.
Nominees were based on feedback from WisPolitics.com subscribers, who then joined web viewers and social media followers in voting on the awards.
