Dem Rep. Leon Young announced today he will not seek re-election, saying he is returning to the Milwaukee Police Department.

Young, 50, was a police officer before his election to the Assembly in 1992. He said the decision to retire was difficult because he will miss the “countless residents who have entrusted me to serve them.”

“The current state of partisan politics and sheer gridlock at the state have made this choice a little easier,” he said.

Young is the 15th member of the Assembly who began the 2017-18 session but opted against seeking re-election this fall.
