Madison – Today, Representative John Spiros (R – Marshfield) voted in favor of passing Assembly Bill 1 (AB 1), guaranteeing those diagnosed with a pre-existing condition will have health care coverage, despite what happens on the federal level.
“This bill is important to me and to our families around the state. No one should be disqualified from adequate healthcare based on a pre-existing coverage. This bill ensures that our families are protected. I am excited to see our state leading the way in ensuring three levels of protection. I was also pleased to see that, after discussion, the Assembly worked together with Governor Evers to prohibit annual or life-time caps,” explained Rep. Spiros.
AB 1 guarantees individuals with pre-existing conditions will not be denied a healthcare policy, turned away from services required to treat a condition, or face higher premiums based on health condition. Wisconsin joins 4 other states nationwide to ensure all three criteria.
