Gov. Tony Evers will propose in his budget allowing those who are undocumented and in Wisconsin to be eligible for driver’s licenses and ID cards.
According to excerpts of his planned remarks for tonight’s address, Evers will say the proposal “makes our roads and our communities safer, and helps strengthen our economy and Wisconsin families.”
Evers indicated during the fall campaign that he supported allowing illegal immigrants working in Wisconsin to obtain a driver’s license. Then-Gov. Scott Walker seized on that proposal in the closing weeks of the campaign to knock Evers.
