Gov. Tony Evers today vetoed a GOP bill to cut income taxes for the middle class, saying Republicans failed to provide a way to pay for the reduction and the proposal should be considered in the upcoming state budget.
Evers’ veto, the first he’s issued since taking office, had been expected. He has regularly raised concerns about the GOP proposal and made clear in recent days that he planned to veto it.
Evers wrote in his veto message the GOP version of a middle-class tax cut “relies simply on draining the projected opening balance for the upcoming biennium.”
