Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, R-Juneau, said today the Senate will move ahead with a planned vote on the nomination of Brad Pfaff to serve as DATCP secretary.
The guv’s administration, ag groups and others made a furious push to at least delay a vote on the nomination after Fitzgerald’s office indicated Friday he had asked Gov. Tony Evers to withdraw the nomination.
Fitzgerald declined to predict what the final vote would be on Pfaff’s nomination. But he said he didn’t see any of his members supporting his nomination.
With a 19-14 GOP majority, three Republican members would have to join all of the chamber’s Dems to confirm Pfaff.
“We’re going to have a debate on the floor like we would with anybody else,” Fitzgerald said.
The Senate recessed after a resolution to honor former Sen. Walter John Chilsen with Dems indicating plans to meet in caucus until 12:15 p.m.
