Rep. Nygren: Weekly Radio Address: State Budget

Madison–State Representative John Nygren (R-Marinette), Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Finance, delivered the following Weekly Radio Address:

“Hi, I’m State Representative John Nygren, Co-chair of the Joint Committee on Finance.”
“Today marks the beginning of the legislature’s work on the state budget.”
“Over the last several months, Governor Evers has repeatedly called for bipartisanship. In his state of the state address, less than a month ago, he called on the legislature to focus on important priorities instead of being distracted by division.”

“Unfortunately, Governor Evers is not following his own words when putting together his budget recommendations. Instead of attempting to reach out to Republicans and build consensus, he has chosen division and distractions that will prevent us from working together.”

“Republicans in the legislature understand that we must work with Governor Evers in this era of divided government. That’s why, from the very start of this legislative session, we have worked to find areas of agreement with Governor Evers and the Democrats. Unfortunately, despite his rhetoric, Governor Evers has been unwilling to work with Republicans.”

“Despite Governor Evers missing an opportunity to work together for Wisconsin, Republicans will craft a balanced budget that invests in Wisconsin and moves our state forward, without relying on tax increases or accounting gimmicks.”

“I look forward to working with my colleagues to craft a budget that reflects the values and
priorities of all Wisconsinites.” “Thank you, and On Wisconsin!”
