Supreme Court candidate Lisa Neubauer raised more than $325,000 during the second half of 2018, edging conservative rival Brian Hagedorn.
Her last report showed $358,288 in receipts over a 10-day period in late June, though that included a $250,000 personal loan. Neubauer’s campaign said she finished the year with more than $570,000 in the bank.
Meanwhile, Hagedorn raised $310,630 during the six-month period, spent $30,040 and had $281,089 in the bank at the end of 2018, according to a copy of his cover sheet shared with WisPolitics.com.
The candidates, both judges on the 2nd District Court of Appeals, turned in some of the better six-month periods ahead of an election year for a Supreme Court candidate.
Then-Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson raised $588,257 during the last half of 2008 ahead of her successful 2009 re-election bid.
Otherwise, their totals top any other Supreme Court candidate for a similar period in the last decade. The previous second best had been liberal Justice Ann Walsh Bradley’s $265,304 over the last half of 2014 as she won re-election in 2015.
Neither Hagedorn or Neubauer, who are vying to replace Abrahamson, has filed a full report with the Ethics Commission detailing their fundraising activity over the last half of 2018.
Hagedorn’s cover sheet shows he had $7,565 in incurred obligations and outstanding loans.
