MADISON – In response to the Republican Co-Chairs’ continued refusal to release funds to address homelessness, the Democratic members of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) released the following statement:
“Earlier this week Governor Evers called for the JFC to convene to release already appropriated funds to address homelessness. Republicans quickly rejected the Thursday meeting and refused to do their jobs, leaving Wisconsinites without homes out in the cold. It’s time for our Republican colleagues to put the people they represent – especially the children, families and veterans most in need – ahead of their own faux indignation and bruised egos.
“Republicans are turning their backs on Wisconsinites who do not have a place to call home this holiday season. After five months of inaction, continued delay on releasing these funds will only lead to unnecessary suffering as those facing homelessness will now have to wait until sometime in 2020 for Republicans to do the job they were elected to do.
“Democratic JFC members are ready to work and are disappointed by the Republicans’ decision not to come to the table to convene on this long-overdue request. Action by JFC is needed to allow those who are charged with implementing homelessness programs can utilize the funds now and Democrats are ready to continue fighting for community members in need.”
