The state faces a structural deficit of nearly $1.4 billion heading into the 2021-23 biennium following Gov. Tony Evers’ actions on the new budget, according to a projection from the Legislative Fiscal Bureau.
That’s an improvement both compared to the budget Evers originally produced and the one that passed out of the Joint Finance Committee.
Still, it also is the largest structural deficit since the nearly $1.8 billion imbalance going into the 2015-17 biennium.
