Host Committee Also Announces Initial Process for Vendors & Suppliers

MILWAUKEE—The Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee today announced new senior staff for diversity and intentional inclusion: Lafayette Crump, Vice President of Diversity, Vendor Accountability, and Growth, and Jim Milner, Chief Diversity and Intentional Inclusion Advisor. Additionally, the Host Committee outlined the initial process to ensure that the more than $200 million economic impact is shared with significant community and minority support, to levels never seen before.

“We are proud that this will be a convention in and with Milwaukee. And we will go further—extending beyond downtown and beyond the city. We will focus on engaging all minority communities, as well as people with disabilities, veteran, and LGBTQ communities serving in a leading role, not as an afterthought. We will also hold our vendor partners accountable to our strong, working family values, and we will express that organized labor is a gateway to a stronger middle class,” said Liz Gilbert, president of the Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee. “That’s why I’m thrilled to have Lafayette and Jim join the team. They will be intentional with their efforts to ensure that this is the most inclusive, diverse, and meaningful convention in history.”

The convention is poised to make an economic impact of hundreds of millions of dollars on not only Milwaukee, but the entire state of Wisconsin, and will bring numerous opportunities to vendors and suppliers. The Milwaukee 2020 Host Committee is currently conducting an assessment to determine what will be required to achieve historic diversity and intentional inclusion goals.

The Host Committee will pre-qualify vendors and suppliers in an engagement effort that will be widely promoted digitally and throughout communities in the coming weeks. Among the evaluation criteria for vendors are technical expertise, community engagement, environmental efforts including carbon neutrality and recycling, and worker policies, including a $15 minimum wage and paid sick leave. Requests for proposals will be conducted on a rolling basis of need. The Host Committee will place an emphasis on collaboration, alliances, and partnerships. The objective is to create capacity-building projects that align small business growth and market sustainability.

Lafayette Crump joins the committee on loan from Prism Technical Management & Marketing Services, LLC, where he serves as Chief Operating Officer. For nearly 25 years, Prism, a Milwaukee-based multidisciplinary management consulting firm, has been ensuring supplier and workforce diversity, inclusion and equity on large scale construction projects and events, and within sizable organizations. Under Crump, challenging supplier and workforce diversity targets have been consistently surpassed, including on Milwaukee projects such as Fiserv Forum, the Northwestern Mutual Tower & Commons, the Milwaukee Streetcar, and more. Crump has a wide range of experience as a consultant, business owner and attorney. He serves as the Chairman of the Board for Safe & Sound, a public-private nonprofit uniting residents, youth, law enforcement and community partners to build safe and empowered neighborhoods, as well as on the boards of the Salvation Army, the Visit Milwaukee Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Committee and We Got This.

Jim Milner is the Owner and Managing Director of Sector Management Consulting Group with more than 35 years of providing business and professional services and strategies, coaching and advising in the Milwaukee community, around the US and beyond. Jim is a Master ICF Executive Leadership Coach and Training Consultant. He co-created and developed talent pipeline strategies, evidence-based leadership and organizational development growth structures with C-suite and middle managers. He is certified in more than 30 instruments and assessment tools that support recruiting, leadership training, and human resources management for individuals, businesses, and community organizations. He has worked with a wide range of Milwaukee businesses and organizations, including We Energies Corporation, Milwaukee Public Schools, Medical College of Wisconsin, Manpower, Associated Bank, the City of Milwaukee, Social Development Commission and more. Milner is past Chair of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin and the African American Chamber of Commerce-Wisconsin, Past President of the International Coaching Federation – Wisconsin Chapter, Chair of the Governance Committee for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Economic Development Cooperation, past member of Marquette University National Alumni Board of Directors and past Board Director for Milwaukee Downtown Rotary.
