Alderman Khalif J. Rainey is pleased to announce the opening of a new Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) office in 7th District in partnership with the Milwaukee Health Department. The office will be located at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital, 5000 W. Chambers St. and the WIC staff will be based at the hospital’s Women’s Outpatient Center (WOC). The office will provide support to low income mothers, infants, and children through benefits like supplemental food, health care referrals, and nutrition education.

“The opening of the new WIC office at Ascension St. Joseph Hospital is the next step in improving maternal health outcomes in the 7th District by providing crucial resources, support, and care to low income women and children in our community,” said Ald. Rainey. “This is a community resource and I strongly encourage residents to utilize this new office to help us build a happier and healthier community.”

WIC is a federally funded grant program that offers resources to low-income women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Studies have shown that WIC is a cost effective program linked to longer gestation periods, higher birthweights and lower infant mortality rates. Forty percent of Women’s Outpatient Center patients qualify for WIC benefits, but are not currently enrolled.
