MADISON – Governor Tony Evers today vetoed a package of anti-women’s health bills aimed at misinforming the public about abortion care.

Statement from Mike Murray, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI):

“These bills and their supporters are making claims that inflammatory, offensive and blatantly false. Over the last several years, anti-abortion politicians in Wisconsin have proven that they will stop at nothing to push their agenda to ban safe, legal abortion. Make no mistake, these bills are part of that strategy.

“We applaud Gov. Evers for vetoing this legislation that is not based in medical fact or the realities of abortion care. Not only is he blocking harmful legislation from going into effect, but he’s also proposing policies that will actually improve the health of women and babies in our state. If Republican legislators are interested in finding health care solutions, they should support the governor’s budget. Expanding Medicaid is a surefire way to improve health outcomes for babies and moms. It would also allow the state to invest in important health priorities like the ‘Healthy Women, Healthy Babies’ proposal, which is focused on supporting healthy pregnancies and births. That’s something we all should be able to agree on.”
