Milwaukee — U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin hosted three health care listening sessions with concerned Wisconsinites across the state last weekend as Republicans continue their partisan attacks on health care.

Senator Baldwin met with families in La Crosse, Milwaukee, and Green Bay, each eager to share about their own experiences and voice their concerns over how the Trump administration’s anti-health care agenda could leave them without access to the care they depend on.

In La Crosse, Mariah Olson, who has undergone forty-three surgeries and requires more than fifty pills a day to manage her medical conditions, told the lawmakers just how important access to affordable health coverage has been for her.

“Having health care is so important, otherwise my husband and I would have to declare bankruptcy.”

Senator Baldwin promised Olson and others that she would continue to fight against the President’s attempts to repeal and sabotage the Affordable Care Act, and work to protect all Wisconsinites’ health care. Senator Baldwin introduced a resolution in the Senate calling on the administration to reverse its decision in the Texas v. United States lawsuit, which would strike down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act.

“I’m pressing for a resolution to be passed in the Senate that would direct the Trump administration to actually defend the Affordable Care Act so that we can get about the task to strengthening it and improving it and expanding access,” Baldwin told the group in La Crosse.”

In Milwaukee, Senator Baldwin stressed the importance of the Trump administration’s lawsuit, and the threat it poses to Wiconsinites’ health care.

“I think he needs to be held accountable for the position he’s taking on this,” Sen. Baldwin said. “There’s a very high profile fight in the Congress to save the Affordable Care Act, however, the public I don’t think is as aware that the Trump administration is now trying to overturn it in court and undermine the affordable care act in other ways.”
