MADISON – On Tuesday, the Wisconsin State Senate voted unanimously to confirm the appointment of Rebecca Cameron Valcq as a Commissioner to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC).  Valcq has been serving as a Commissioner since her appointment by Governor Tony Evers on January 7, 2019, and as the PSC’s chairperson since March 2, 2019.  As PSC Chair, Valcq is a member of Governor Evers’ cabinet and is the first Latina to hold the post.
“I want to sincerely thank Governor Evers for appointing me to this position and for trusting me to make the proper decisions related to the regulation of Wisconsin’s utilities, and the management of the State Energy Office and Broadband Expansion Grant and Focus on Energy programs,” said Valcq.  “I’d also like to thank the State Senate for its vote.  I am looking forward to continuing to work on the issues critically important to Wisconsin.”
The PSC is an independent regulatory agency dedicated to serving the public interest. Since 1907, the agency has been responsible for the regulation of Wisconsin public utilities, including those that are municipally owned. The PSC works to ensure that, in the absence of competition, adequate and reasonably priced service is provided to utility customers. PSC approval is required before utilities can change rates, build large power plants, or construct major transmission lines. Wisconsin’s State energy Office and Focus on Energy and Broadband Expansion Grant programs are also housed at the PSC.
