Madison…Representative Joan Ballweg (R-Markesan) helped to announce an initiative to allow Wisconsin’s working class families to keep more of their hard-earned money. Governor Evers called for a tax cut for the middle class and Assembly Republicans agree. Republicans created an almost $600 million surplus over the past eight years and believe they can work across the aisle to provide much needed relief for Wisconsin families.

“Wisconsin has a strong economy and this is a good bi-partisan opportunity to lower the burden for our working class,” said Ballweg. “More importantly, we are able to deliver on this initiative without increasing taxes on our local farmers or small businesses.”

The proposed initiative would be targeted towards individuals making between $30,000 and $100,000 and families making less than $150,000. The median family filing jointly will see around a $310 reduction in net taxes.

Assembly Republicans and Senators are working hard to finalize this legislation in order to introduce it as early as next week. Once approved, the tax cut would take effect the following year.
