MADISON – This evening, Governor Evers delivered his first State of the State address before both houses of the Wisconsin State Legislature. Representative Jill Billings (D-La Crosse) voiced support for the Governor’s articulated priorities, releasing the following statement:
“Governor Evers’ address highlighted the importance of accessible healthcare, funding public education and fixing Wisconsin’s economy. His remarks promise a balanced set of priorities and a fresh start for Wisconsin.”
“I appreciate that the Governor held listening sessions across the state in the months preceding his inauguration, and it’s clear the conversations he had with residents in La Crosse and elsewhere were reflected in his address tonight. As I do, Governor Evers believes that investing in our kids is what’s best for our future, and his commitment to funding mental health programs and special education programs in K-12 schools addresses widespread need across the state. He discussed his commitment to taking the federal Medicaid expansion money, which is something I’ve been fighting for since I’ve been on the La Crosse County Board. It was also refreshing to hear our Governor talk about preserving clean water and protecting natural resources, for the first time since I’ve been elected.”
“I’m eager to work together with Governor Evers and members on both sides of the aisle to pass legislation that works in the interest of all Wisconsinites. I look forward to Governor Evers’ budget address in the coming months, where he will outline more specific priorities and funding proposals.”
