Madison – Today, Representative Barbara Dittrich (R-Oconomowoc) was honored to be named chairperson of the Speaker’s Taskforce on Adoption. The newly created, bipartisan taskforce will address barriers facing biological and adoptive parents in the adoption process.
“I am honored to be named the chairperson of this special committee. By addressing these issues, we are seeking to make the adoption process an option for both families seeking to fill their hearts and their homes and expectant mothers who have chosen life for their child,” shared Rep. Dittrich.
The committee will be addressing the following areas:
· Termination of parental rights
· Shortened timeline for adoptions
· Costs associated with adoption/ways to reduce costs
· Awareness and availability of resources pertaining to adoption
Other members of the bipartisan taskforce will be named in the coming weeks.
“Our Republican caucus has recently taken a firm stand for pregnant women and their vulnerable, unborn children. I am looking forward to taking the next step in advancing life and strong families by leading this taskforce. I am eager to help find ways to better facilitate adoption,” concluded Rep. Dittrich.
According to the Department of Children and Families, there were 723 children adopted in Wisconsin in FY 2018; more than one-third of the public adoptions in Wisconsin are in Milwaukee County.
