Madison, WI – Following Governor Evers’ State of the State Address to a joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature Tuesday evening, Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield) issued the following remarks:
“Thanks to the last eight years of Republican leadership, Governor Evers is taking over at one of the most prosperous times in state history. Wisconsin went from billion dollar deficits to nearly $600 million budget surplus, from billion dollar tax hikes to $8 billion in tax cuts. Our economy continues to grow, our unemployment rate has remained at record lows, and last budget we were able to invest more money in our schools than ever before. Our state is strong.”
“Listening to Governor Evers speak, I was pleased to hear he is ready for bipartisan solutions. His comments on lowering taxes and guaranteeing coverage for those with pre-existing conditions was encouraging. Last week, the Assembly Republicans proposed a plan to cut taxes for middle-class families by ten percent and on Tuesday, the Assembly passed the Pre-Existing Condition Guaranteed Coverage Act with bipartisan support. Both of these Assembly Republican initiatives help Governor Evers keep two of his campaign promises without raising taxes unnecessarily.”
“Wisconsin’s voters chose a divided government, but they did not choose inaction. I look forward to working with Governor Evers where there is common ground. Compromise however, does not mean compromising our proven conservative principles that have led Wisconsin forward. It is important that we do not move backwards or allow anyone to erase the great progress our state has made.”
“I am committed to protecting Wisconsin taxpayers, keeping the economy strong, and being a voice in Madison for the citizens of the 99th Assembly District. I am looking forward to what we will accomplish this session for my constituents and the State of Wisconsin.”
