MADISON – Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) released the following statement ahead of today’s Assembly floor vote on the 2019-2021 state budget.

“Governor Evers proposed a budget that made the critical investments in health care, education, clean water, and transportation that Wisconsin needs. Unfortunately, legislative Republicans have put politics ahead of people and created a budget filled with grave missed opportunities.

“Wisconsin residents lose the opportunity of expanded healthcare coverage, increased access, higher quality care, and increased affordability.

“Our state loses the opportunity to bring our taxpayer dollars home and draw down $1.3 billion in federal dollars to improve Wisconsin’s health care system for everyone.

“Our children lose the opportunity for significant increases in special education funding, something administrators and educators across the state tell us is badly needed.

‘Our businesses lose the opportunity of fixed roads, and budgetary savings that can be spent in Wisconsin rather than in New Jersey to stimulate Wisconsin employment and Wisconsin wages.

“Governor Evers’s budget proposal made the investments we need and reflected the values of most Wisconsinites. The Republican budget, by contrast, falls far short of the mark.”
