Rep. Felzkowski: Calls for criminal justice reform

Rep. Mary Felzkowski, 608-266-7694

Madison, WI – Earlier today, Wisconsin Assembly Republicans introduced a package of budget initiatives designed to reform the criminal justice system in Wisconsin. Rep Felzkowski (R-Irma) expressed her support for these reforms designed to keep communities safe:

“The Assembly Republicans just announced our support for common sense criminal justice reforms that will provide needed resources to those in the public justice system, expand the treatment options for those with addiction or substance abuse problems, and facilitate the transition from incarceration to gainful employment.”

The initiatives include increased hourly rates for State Public Defenders, funding for additional Assistant District Attorneys across the state, investments in Treatment Alternatives and Diversion (TAD) programs, and a commitment to policies that will assist ex-offenders in transitioning back into their communities.

“These budget initiatives have been crafted with input from State Public Defenders, District Attorneys, and counties across the state. My office has been discussing these issues with our local district attorneys in the past weeks, and I am eager for the state to provide them with the assistance they deserve to be able to do their jobs effectively.”

“I am hopeful Governor Evers takes a thorough look at these proposals, as he has indicated his desire for criminal justice reform. This is something we should all be able to work on together. ”
