MADISON – Today Governor Tony Evers announced his intention to propose legalizing medical marijuana in his plan for the 2019-2020 biennial budget. Governor Evers also went a step further to propose decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana. Representative Jason Fields (Milwaukee D-11 AD) released the following statement in response.
“I have been working with constituents, stakeholders, and marijuana legalization advocates from the 11th Assembly District on these very same issues. During the early days of this new administration I shared with Governor Evers directly my legislative proposal LRB-0819 which calls for full legalization under specific guidelines. Today, Governor Evers announced his plan to incorporate some of the very concepts we seek to enact. Namely, expungement of criminal records for past convictions of minor offenses. I am proud to work side by side with Governor Evers, and my legislative colleagues to pass meaningful reforms relating to marijuana use here in Wisconsin.”
