WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) today issued the following statement after the House passed two major appropriations bills that direct more than $1.3 trillion in spending over the course of FY2020.

“Last night we received 2,313 pages of appropriations bills that not only direct more than $1.3 trillion in spending, but are also filled with a whole host of special interest provisions that have no place in a traditional appropriations package. In less than 24 hours, the House not only ‘amended’, but ‘debated’ and passed these bills.

“I hate to break it to you, but no one has read these bills. While there are surely good things included – such as increased GLRI funding and the repeal of crippling healthcare taxes – it doesn’t make up for the fact that last-second omnibus bills like these are exactly what’s wrong with Congress. We have to find a way to stop governing from crisis to crisis and fix this mess.”
