MADISON – Wisconsin State Assembly Assistant Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D – Middleton) released this statement following Governor Tony Evers’ Budget Address to a Joint Session of the Wisconsin State Legislature:
“Tonight, we heard a new vision for the state of Wisconsin. After almost a decade of misplaced priorities and lost opportunities, Governor Evers introduced a budget that puts the people first. During the campaign, we heard from Wisconsinites what they wanted from their government. Governor Evers and Lieutenant Governor Barnes traveled the state to hear directly from the people and built a budget by Wisconsinites, for Wisconsinites. What we heard tonight was a road map on making Wisconsin a state where everyone can succeed.
“A budget is a statement of our values. There are many provisions in this budget for the legislature to support the people of Wisconsin. Our public schools, healthcare and infrastructure are central to this budget. Homeowners, small businesses and the middle class are getting the tax relief they deserve. Working families can finally get ahead in an economy built to work for the people. I look forward to the days ahead as we discuss Governor Evers’ budget and how we can best deliver on our promises to everyone in Wisconsin.
“Governor Evers is putting everyday Wisconsinites ahead of special interests and corporate welfare. Expanding healthcare access, rebuilding our roads and investing in our schools are not just reasonable ideas, they can become a reality through this budget. After years of divide and conquer politics, Republican leaders can now join us in approving this budget for everyone in Wisconsin, not just the wealthy few. Let’s get to work for the people.”
