La Crosse, WI— Rep. Ron Kind is encouraging Wisconsin dairy farmers to sign up for the Dairy Margin Coverage program after the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced last week that the deadline to sign up was extended to Friday, September 27, 2019The program offers protection for dairy farmers when the difference between the all-milk price and the average feed cost falls below a certain dollar amount selected by the producer.

Folks who want to sign up for the program should visit their local Farm Service Agency (FSA) office. A list of county Farm Service Agency offices can be found here.

“Wisconsin dairy farms are the backbone to our state’s economy, but the last few years have been tough for our farmers,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “As the farming community continues to face huge challenges on everything from access to global markets, to lower dairy prices, to workforce, I encourage folks to take advantage of this program. Stop by a local office before September 27th and sign up.”

Earlier this year, Rep. Kind introduced his Dairy Action Plan to help struggling dairy farmers as they deal with everything from the ongoing trade war with China to consecutive years of low dairy prices.
