MADISON, WI – Today, Representative Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement celebrating Governor Tony Evers’ first State Budget Address:
“After eight years of our state government not listening to the people, we heard a new vision for Wisconsin. Governor Evers’ budget address focused on the priorities that matter to the public, the priorities I have heard at your doorsteps,” Neubauer said.
“Gov. Evers’ priorities are our priorities. He is laying a strong foundation for a bright future in Wisconsin. Gov. Evers wants to fund our public schools, so every child can have an education that sets them up for success, from kindergarten to college. He is fighting for working families, from clean drinking water to affordable, accessible healthcare.
“Gov. Evers wants to legalize medical marijuana, so patients and doctors can explore the best options for their care,” Neubauer continued. “He is working to put the “just” back into our justice system, from expungement for low-level, non-violent marijuana charges to reopening the pardon process. He is working to combat economic and racial disparities. And he is fighting for a sustainable future for our children, so every person has the opportunity to succeed and thrive in Wisconsin.
“This budget is the people’s budget. This is our Wisconsin — a Wisconsin that works for everyone,” Neubauer concluded.
In the coming weeks and months, I will be asking for your feedback on the budget, from local events to e-newsletters and social media outreach. If you have any questions about the state budget, please don’t hesitate to reach out — I can’t wait to hear what you have to say.
