MADISON, Wis. – Earlier today during a State Assembly Floor Session, First Responders of the Year were recognized from all over the state for their contributions to public safety and their communities.  There were five recipients from the 80th Assembly District (pictured): Monticello Fire Captain Ron Blumer, New Glarus Fire Chief David Anderson (not pictured) – Captain Josh Kammerud accepting on his behalf, Green County Sheriff’s Office Dispatcher Meagan Christen, New Glarus EMS Chief Kristie Mueller, and New Glarus Advanced EMT Joshua Wescott. Each individual played a critical role in life-saving operations during a March 8, 2019 mass casualty vehicle crash between Monticello & New Glarus.

Victims of the crash, some of whose lives were saved by these first responders, were in attendance at the ceremony and were also recognized by the Assembly.  Representative Sondy Pope (D-Mt. Horeb) presented the award to the recipients and released the following statement:

“First Responders are the unsung heroes of our communities.  It was a great pleasure to see these individuals honored for their life-saving actions in a chaotic and dangerous incident.  As citizens, it is important that we take time to reflect on and honor their sacrifices and service to public safety and the people in our communities.”
