MADISON – Earlier today at UW-Green Bay, Representative Mike Rohrkaste (R-Neenah) joined fellow Assembly Republicans in announcing a plan to relieve the tax burden on the middle class. Eight years of good budgeting and a growing state economy have led to a state budget surplus of $588.5 million. Agreeing with Governor Evers that many taxpayers need a break, but disagreeing that we need to raise anyone else’s taxes to give them one, Assembly Republicans announced $340 million in tax relief for Wisconsinites in the middle class.
“Nearly two million filers – individuals making less than $100,000 a year and families making $150,000 a year or less – will see their taxes go down this year. Governor Evers campaigned on a middle class tax cut. We’ve been campaigning on tax cuts for years, and have delivered on those promises to the tune of $8 billion in relief,” said Representative Rohrkaste.
“This proposal reduces taxes on our middle class without raising taxes on our farmers and manufacturers. I believe that continuing to lower Wisconsin residents’ tax burden will help with one of our greatest needs as a state: the need to attract and retain workers.”

The nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau projects the median income family, filing jointly, would see a $310 reduction in net taxes.
