WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Ron Kind introduced the bipartisan Giveback Deficit Reduction Act, which will require that all unused Congressional office funds be returned at the end of year to the U.S. Treasury, and be used for deficit or debt reduction. The bill is cosponsored by Rep. David Schweikert (R-AZ).
“Like many Wisconsin families, I take budgeting seriously. That’s why every year, with the help of my staff, I find office savings and send them right back to the Treasury to pay down our national debt,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “I believe that this practice should be utilized by every office, which is why I’m proud to introduce this bipartisan bill that will require all Congressional offices to return their unused resources so we can lower our National debt. It’s the fiscally responsible thing to do.”
Rep. Kind has been an advocate for fiscal responsibility and lowering the National debt since he was first elected to Congress. Prior to serving Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, he interned for Senator William Proxmire of Wisconsin, where he investigated wasteful government spending for Sen. Proxmire’s Golden Fleece Award.
Next week, Rep. Kind will announce his 2018 office savings, and return the savings to the U.S. Treasury to pay down the National Debt.
To date, Rep. Kind has returned nearly $2 million of his unused office budget to pay down the national debt.
