Rep. David Steffen (608) 266-5840
Madison… State Representative David Steffen (R-Howard) is calling for more transparency over the historic Foxconn project. Rep. Steffen will be making an open records request of the Evers Administration to learn more about its potential negotiations with Foxconn.
“I take the responsibility of keeping government open and accountable seriously,” said Rep. Steffen. “It’s our job as legislators to ensure there is transparency within the executive branch.”
Foxconn officials recently reaffirmed their commitment to invest in Wisconsin and create 13,000 jobs at a campus in southeast Wisconsin. Recent reports claim the company is readjusting their timeline and may be scaling back operations because of Governor Evers.
“With the contradicting statements and news reports, I think the citizens of our state deserve to know what exactly the new administration is working on with Foxconn,” said Rep. Steffen. “Family-supporting careers and taxpayer dollars are on the line. The public has every right to know if there are secret negotiations taking place that could undermine the legislature-approved contract with Foxconn.”
Rep. Steffen is the chair of the new Assembly Committee on Government Accountability and Oversight. He will announce when the request is officially made and when the administration fills this request. The information will then be made public for review.
