MADISON – The Wisconsin State Assembly will recognize Officer Bryan Wangnoss from Burlington, Wisconsin as a “Hometown Hero” at the upcoming Assembly session on November 7th.

Officer Wangnoss, who was nominated by his State Representative, Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester), has been heavily involved in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Special Olympics fundraisers for years in the Burlington area. This year, he was chosen to represent Wisconsin in the Final Leg team at the 2019 Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi in March.

“Seeing a police officer, who already gives so much to his community, go even further in his efforts to give back is a truly humbling thing,” said Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), who selected Officer Wangnoss to receive the award.

Beyond his selection on the Final Leg team, Officer Wangnoss has championed many fundraisers and events to increase awareness for Special Olympics, including the Ride the Flames Motorcycle Ride, the Torch Run, and the Kenosha Polar Plunge.

“Officer Wangnoss has been a fundraising force for the Special Olympics,” said Speaker Vos. “He is an incredible public servant who has selflessly devoted countless hours raising awareness and funds for this worthy cause.”

The Wisconsin State Assembly sees giving back to the community as one of the most valuable characteristics one can have. The Assembly Hometown Heroes program seeks to identify and recognize individuals from around the state who give of themselves to make a difference in our communities and in the lives of those around them. Hometown Hero Award winners are invited and introduced as a special guest at an Assembly floor session and given the opportunity to speak.
