MADISON – The Joint Legislative Council voted to recommend legislation from the Study Committee on Minor Guardianships, chaired by Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), on a unanimous vote this morning. Rep. Steineke released the following statement regarding the vote:

“This process started with a simple phone call from a constituent, bringing to my attention issues with our state’s minor guardianship laws and the inability of our courts to consider the best interest of the child in these cases. As a father, this struck me as a big problem that I was eager to find a solution for.

“I am incredibly proud of the work we did over the summer and fall, and even more excited to see this bill be able to begin the legislative process. I look forward to continuing to advocate for this issue and our legislation that will make real, positive changes for Wisconsin children, families, and guardians.”
