MADISON – Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna) released the following statement in response to Governor Evers’ repeated unwillingness to support abortion survivors:

“It’s unbelievable to me that a straight forward, common sense bill that simply protects infants outside of the womb is not palatable for Governor Evers. It’s this rationale that proves our need for the Born Alive Survivors Act, because apparently to our governor, even born, breathing infants still qualify as ‘healthcare decisions’ for women.

“Governor Evers and his staff are accusing our leadership of sexism, all while promising to veto a bill that would prevent unborn girls from being aborted because of their gender. Our governor says he’s for women’s rights, but is promising to veto a bill that ensures women are equipped with the information they need if they change their mind about an abortion. It’s hypocrisy at its finest, and rings opposite of empowering women and girls.”
