Chippewa Valley lawmaker eager to find common ground
Madison – Rep. Rob Summerfield (R-Bloomer) issued the following statement after Governor Evers’ State of the State address, which was given to the joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature Tuesday night:
“I am hopeful with the goals laid out by Governor Evers in his [State of the State] address. While there will undoubtedly be issues we disagree on, there are many areas we can still work together. For example, earlier today, my Assembly colleagues and I voted for and passed a bipartisan bill to provide coverage for individuals with preexisting conditions – a campaign promise made on both sides fulfilled.
Over the past eight years – including the past two that I have been in the Legislature – Wisconsin’s economy has seen great growth and I hope to continue that with the new administration. Our [the State’s] unemployment rate alone has remained at under three percent for almost a year now. Broadband grants were increased by $15 million. We invested a record amount in K-12 education and still ended the [2017-18] session with a $588.5 million surplus.
Building off these past successes, I will continue to work on my constituents’ behalf to keep Wisconsin moving forward.”
