Madison…Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) released the following statement concerning the passage of the WISCONSIN Budget in the Assembly.

“I’m proud of my vote for the WISCONSIN Budget that funds the state’s priorities without expanding welfare or raising taxes. This conservative budget actually reduces overall taxes by more than $500 million and holds the line on property taxes. Because of the Republican initiatives this session, a typical Wisconsin family will see a tax reduction of $284 over two years.

“The WISCONSIN Budget is a pro-kid budget. It invests a record amount in actual dollars to K-12 schools, which includes a $604 per student increase over the biennium. The education budget also doubles the current funding for student mental health programs and increases special education funding by more than 20 percent.

“We’re keeping our promise to fix roads and bridges with a historically large local road aid investment and the largest increase of new revenues in a generation. In addition, the transportation budget reduces borrowing to the lowest level in nearly two decades.

“This budget addresses the health care needs of our state. It invests $150 million in caregiver wages, increases payments to nursing homes and keeps health care affordable.

“When Democrats voted no on the WISCONSIN Budget, they voted against a plan that keeps government spending in check and reduces the tax burden on Wisconsin families. This budget deserves to become law.”
