‘Right Lines 2020’ to help lead the Republican Party’s unified efforts to win conservative majorities in state legislatures that matter most for redistricting

WASHINGTON – Following its unprecedented success in the last redistricting cycle in 2010, the Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) this morning announced the launch of its major redistricting initiative, Right Lines 2020, to secure fair, legal, and constitutional districts after the next Census. Expert, public estimates have revealed that winning as few as 49 state legislative seats could determine as much as a 146-seat swing in the U.S. House for the next 10 years. With such a drastic potential swing at stake, the Right Lines 2020 initiative will help lead the Republican Party’s unified efforts on redistricting by supporting Republicans in key states where holding legislative majorities matters most. This includes key presidential battleground states like: Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin.

“Republicans’ success nationally for the next decade will be determined by our Party’s success in the states this cycle, so we’re going to keep the main thing the main thing and fight like hell to win in the districts where it matters most,” said RSLC President Austin Chambers. “Radical liberals obsessed with fundamentally transforming our country with their socialist agenda have shifted their targets from federal elections to state races in an attempt to rig congressional and state district maps in the Democrats’ favor for the next decade. Our team isn’t just sounding the alarm, we’re grabbing the reins and getting to work – this fight has never been more important.”

After being decimated in the states during the 2010 election cycle, radical liberals have figured out that they can’t rely just on winning federal elections and have now set their sights on the states. Backed by George Soros and other leftist billionaires, labor unions, and left-wing activist groups, President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Eric Holder are raising hundreds of millions of dollars to fund and run a coordinated effort to rig our nation’s district maps in favor of Democrats.

The RSLC is planning multi-million dollar investments in key states where the legislature controls or has a key role in the drawing of new congressional and state district maps.

In August, the RSLC announced that former Republican National Committee (RNC) National Finance Chairman Amb. Ron Weiser (ret.) will serve as the organization’s national finance chairman for the 2019-2020 election cycle to spearhead the Right Lines 2020 effort. A former U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia under President George W. Bush, Amb. Weiser is a longtime supporter of conservative causes and currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Republican Jewish Coalition. Amb. Weiser’s leadership and fundraising expertise will be critical to ensuring the Committee has the necessary resources to support Republicans in every corner of the country.

RSLC National Finance Chairman, Amb. Ron Weiser (ret.) said of the announcement, “The foundation of the great success that conservatives have enjoyed over the past decade is due in large part to what the RSLC accomplished in 2010 to win state legislatures and secure fair and accurate redistricting. Our work is now more important than ever before because if Republicans don’t win in states where the legislature plays a critical role in redistricting, our Party won’t win a majority in the U.S. House for the next decade. As socialist-style policies sweep across the states and into the halls of Congress, we have no choice but to again jump into the trenches and lead the fight.”

The RSLC will also continue its work to elect conservative judges to state courts in the 2019-2020 cycle, as the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed earlier this year that the federal judiciary has no business deciding partisan political disputes over redistricting. The ruling delivered a major blow to the Obama-Holder ‘sue until it’s blue’ legal strategy and increased the stakes of electing conservative judges in the states.

The RSLC’s Right Lines 2020 initiative will work in close conjunction with the National Republican Redistricting Trust (NRRT) – the Republican Party’s key resource for redistricting-related legal and data needs. The RSLC-NRRT partnership will serve as the tip of the spear of the Party’s unified efforts to secure fair, legal, and constitutional district maps.

“The Democrats got caught sleeping in 2010 and the RSLC was able to run the table on state legislative races,” said Adam Kincaid, Executive Director of the National Republican Redistricting Trust. “The Democrats are definitely paying more attention this time around – look no further than the fact they have Barack Obama and Eric Holder running point on their effort. If Republicans don’t start investing in state legislative races, and the litigation and data needed to secure our majorities to the same extent the Democrats are, the GOP will see our legislative majorities erased and it will take decades to rebuild them. Fortunately, between the RSLC and the NRRT we have the infrastructure and team we need to win.”
