RightWisconsin offered a number of Republican legislators the opportunity to give their reaction to Governor Tony Evers’ state of the state address Tuesday night by calling the RightWisconsin Hotline.
Legislators who participated in giving their reactions on the RightWisconsin Hotline include: Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke (R-Kaukauna), Sen. Alberta Darling (R-River Hills), Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Tyler August (R-Lake Geneva), Rep. Scott Allen (R-Waukesha), Sen. David Craig (R-Big Bend), Sen. Chris Kapenga (R-Delafield), Sen. Dale Kooyenga (R-Brookfield), Sen. Howard Marklein (R–Spring Green), Rep. Joe Sanfelippo (R-New Berlin), Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond Du Lac), and Rep. Tyler Vorpagel (R–Plymouth).
Steineke rejected Evers’ decision to ask Attorney General Josh Kaul to end Wisconsin’s participation in the lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act.
“That’s problematic because the attorney general cannot do that without the consent of the legislature,” Steineke said. “So unless he is planning on coming to the legislature, Governor Evers does not have the authority on his own to direct the Attorney General to withdraw from that lawsuit.”
Assembly Education Committee Chairman Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt (R-Fond Du Lac) agreed with the need for some increase in education funding but said, “Six hundred million dollars is most certainly not going to happen.”
And Rep. Joe Sanfelippo (R-New Berlin), hearing the doom and gloom from our governor, wondered if Evers knows which state he is in. “I’m not entirely sure that he realizes he’s the governor of Wisconsin and not Illinois based on all the problems he pointed out,” Sanfelippo said. “Hopefully somebody in his administration will alert him to that fact.”
