[Madison, WI]  On this year’s Tax Day, Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald is reaffirming his commitment to keeping taxes low on hard-working Wisconsinites. Over the last eight years, Wisconsin Republicans have cut taxes by over $8 billion while at the same time, state revenues have increased. Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald released the following statement:

“Republicans in the Legislature have fought to keep taxes low over the last decade. We’ve cut taxes by more than $8 billion and created a pro-business tax environment so that companies pick Wisconsin to grow– and all the while state revenues have been on the rise. We have Wisconsin headed in the right direction.”

“It’s unfortunate that Governor Evers has decided to use his first budget to change course, raising taxes by more than $1 billion and increasing the tax burden Wisconsin businesses face. Moving forward, Senate Republicans will fight to keep taxes low in Wisconsin.”

Earlier this year, Governor Evers introduced his budget that included more than $1 billion in tax hikes and proposed raising taxes on Wisconsin manufacturers by eliminating a key tax credit.
