Madison, WI – Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) offered the following statement regarding the Senate’s passage of the Middle-Class Tax Cut bill:
“I was proud to vote for the Middle Class Tax Cut in the State Senate today. As a co-author of this legislation, I believe our tax cut is good, bipartisan tax policy that combines the Governor’s campaign promise to cut taxes for the middle class with a conservative approach to spending.”
“We have gone more than half-way in a bipartisan effort. I hope that the Governor will recognize our willingness to help him fulfill his promise. The only difference between our plans is that the Republican Middle Class Tax Cut provides tax relief AND continues to fund important priorities without taking from one group to give to another.”
“Most of the Wisconsin economy is strong. The only economy that is in trouble right now is the Agricultural economy. Our plan does not penalize agriculture-related businesses and manufacturers by capping the Manufacturing and Agriculture Tax Credit (MAC), the way the Governor’s and Democrat’s plan does. We, instead, use surplus funds. I would rather not spend more tax dollars than take from one group to give to another. No one wants a tax cut at the expense of their neighbors.”
“The Middle Class Tax Cut we passed today is good for taxpayers and our economy.”
Assembly Bill (AB) 4 passed the State Assembly on Tuesday, February 12, 2019. The State Senate passed the bill today, February 13, 2019. AB 4 is now before Governor Tony Evers.
